For this assignment I was suppose to create an interesting design with two pieces of copper wire, LED lights, and a battery. I was very excited since I have not done something like this since perhaps elementary school. It seemed really simple, manageable, and was confident I would create something in the time we had in class. In addition, everyone else was completing theirs during the class time so I thought it would be the same for me. However, that was unfortunately not the case. I was determined to have my wires loop around each other somehow (while of course not having them touch) in order to create something cool and functional. Things kept going the wrong way, if it was not one thing it was another. I decided to have another go at it when I got home, but same thing. I was so frustrated because I wanted a loop design but they either kept toughing (the wires), the LED light would not turn on, wrapping the LED light ruined the composition, tapping process kept shifting the wires incorrectly, etc. I must have gone back to it at least five times, different design each time, but with the same lopping idea in mind. Finally with the help of a 9v2 battery and going through trail and error, I managed to be successful. I changed my process on taking things about. Instead of doing what I was in the beginning which was starting from tape to connected the lights, I went the other way around. I started with wrapping the LED lights first, then creating the composition as I worked my way down, and finishing on tapping the ends to the battery. Basically top to bottom was the way to go in my structure instead of bottom to top. I learned to get out of the "set" comfort cycle, take on a different perspective, to compose myself since a frustrated mind does no good to the creative process, and how helpful a 9v2 battery can be to indicate what leg of the light is positive. I hope to apply this experience and train of thought and creative process to what is to come next. In art classrooms, this hands on more technology driven assignments would be great. It is a way for the kids to use different materials besides your "basic" art ones, ignite new interests, and expand on different learning skills. Everything considered, did I make things more difficult than I should have? Probably, but I did get my cross over/wrapped loops!
